Sermon Date:  Jan 10, 2010
Speaker Name:  Rev. Billy Chung
Scripture:  Ephesians 6:17
Passage:

God’s Word is a Weapon in our battle against Satan.

He is called the Father of lies and the way we can defeat him is with the truth of God.

Peter described Satan as a roaring lion looking for someone to kill. – 1 Peter 5:8

Just as you could not kill a lion with your bare hands, you can not defeat Satan without the Sword of the Spirit.

Be Active

We are called to be active (fan the flame) rather than passive Christians.

Part of what it means to give the devil an opportunity is to not fill the day with godly activities.

Fill your day with holy activities and it will much more difficult for Satan to get you to sin.

How can Satan control you if you are thankful?

How can Satan control you if you are declaring God’s Words out loud?

What comes out your mouth when you are tired, hungry and stretched (tested) to your limit reveals who you truly are.

Use the Word to defeat temptation. – Jesus – Matthew 4

We need to speak God’s Truth out loud just like Jesus did when He was tempted in the desert.

Each time He was tempted, He responded by speaking God’s Word out loud.

   He was tired.

   He was hungry.

He was tested to His limit but God’s Word came out of His mouth and gave Him victory over Satan.

Use the Word to bless others.

  1. Correct – Matthew 8:25,26

The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

Pray for wisdom to know what to say.

Examine your heart to make sure you are not motivated by anger.

Write out your words and prayerfully think about the words for days.

The hardening of your heart is difficult to detect just as the hardening of your arteries is.

Ask someone you trust and someone with more wisdom than you to look over your letter.

  1. Encourage – Mt 9:20-22    Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.  21 She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."  22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

Jesus knew that this woman was scared, discouraged and feeling hopeless.

He knew she needed a word of encouragement rather than a lecture.

If you give a lecture to someone who needs encouragement, they will rebel.

If you only give encouragement to someone who needs a lecture, they will get spoiled and become a monster.

It is much much much better to say nothing than to say the wrong thing.

My sister really encouraged me through her words a couple of years ago.

She shared words I liked to hear and also words I needed to hear.

She said my father in law loves me like one of his own natural children.

She said she liked my really liked my preaching.

She knows I am an extreme extrovert and enjoy being away from people.

She knows I am energized by times by myself or with God.

She said I am good at spending with God but she said that I also needed to spend more time with people…..with all kinds of people ……other pastors, church members, and strangers

Application

1. Memorize God's Word.
If you really  believe there is power available to us in God’s spoken Word, and if you really want to obey God, you will memorize God’s Word and proclaim it.

Jascha Heifitz, the greatest violinist of this century began playing at the age of 3 and practiced 4 hours a day until his death at 75 (102,000 hours of practice). His persistence led to his success.

2. Read God's Word out loud daily.
God's Word spoken out loud will drive away demons just like a mouse-repelling machine drives away mice. Speaking Bible verses out loud and reading God’s Word out loud every day  will lead to spiritual success (joy, obedience, freedom from addictions, and increased influence)  for God.
